Five Simple Steps To Become More Sustainable

 Hello Fellow Greeners,

In honor of Earth Day, we put a little list together for those who want to be GREEN and SUSTAINABLE but need help figuring out where to start. It seems simple enough to recycle and not use too much plastic, but how can we be "everyday sustainable"? Here are a few tips and tricks to live your best sustainable life.

1. Buy Seasonal Clothing At The Thrift Store

We all love to shop, but fast fashion is turning our world into one big garbage can. Help the Earth by buying big-ticket items like Winter Coats from Good Will. Go to the up-scale locations and hit the Thrift Stores there. Look for brand-named items in excellent condition and wear them often. Not only are you keeping a jacket out of the trash, but you are also saving a few bucks.

2. Stop Buy Expensive Cleaning Products

Cleaning products are filled with nasty ingredients that are bad for your health. Try using baking soda, vinegar, lemons, and Dr. Bronner's soap to clean the house. You can also do laundry with most of these items.

3. Get a No Income Requirement Pantry Membership

I know what you're thinking; Eww, I'm not poor. Why should I get a pantry membership? Getting a pantry membership is one of the most sustainable things you can do for your household and the Earth. Did you know America tosses 40% of its food in the trash? Most of the food in the Supermarket will never see a table and will end up in the landfill. By getting a Pantry Membership or using a service like Too Good To Go, you are helping the Earth in a significant way. You also save a few bucks, so it's a win-win situation.

4. Grow 10% of your food

Try creating an indoor garden for yourself and grow your herbs and micro-greens. This practice is fun and relaxing, plus it makes you eco-accountable.

5. Steward a Green Space

This idea is a hit or a miss. In most locations, you can adopt a tree, join a gardening program, or form a clean-up club in your area. The problem may come with what program you join or if you live around an evil HOA. No one wants to get yelled at for trimming a tree. Stewardships are passion projects, and people can become REAL PASSIONATE over their projects to the point of toxic energy that can suck the fun out of them. You have been warned!

We hope you like this little list of steps to become more sustainable. There are many ways to go about sustainability; this is just the beginning. If you liked this content and think we should have included more ideas, please share them via our contact form.
